is talk radio GOOD for either conservatives OR liberals?..?

the main ‘sales force’ for the Republicans and to a lesser extent for liberals as well IS TALK RADIO.

In the USA TALK RADIO is primarliy funded by scam advertisments that even most 8 year old kids know are rip-off schemes. .
Products such as-
”MALE ENLARGEMENT” PILLS,
COLON CLEASING SOLUTIONS,
‘GET OUT OF DEBT QUICK’ SCHEMES,
HERBAL VIAGRA,

ARE THE VOTERS/listeners who are susceptible to these types SHOWS which subsist off of clearly fraudulent advertisments good for ANY political movement, or are they the reason that american politics and quality of life keep spiraling downward?
Do you ‘TRUST’ any talk show host to tell the truth politically if they are supported by deceptive scam advertisers?
@ Attention-

frankly, you are not telling the truth. . the majority of the political talk radio shows across the US run the same ADS for the same scam products, Non-FDA tested/approved Herbals pills, potions and snake oil. . the stupid must buy them as they have run these same SNAKE OIL SCAMS for years to subsidise these shows. .
could these ‘p3nis enlargement pill’ purchasers who listen to talk radio be THE REASON our whole nation is collapsing under corrupt left and right politicians?
@ eelfins-
its not a issue of who controls the content of the shows. . can you trust someone who would claim to be giving you the TUTH or FACTS, but who is allowing scammers and non-fda approved pill pushers to fund your shows air-time?. . can you associate with a scam advertiser OR BILL AYRES, and still be credible after doing so. . doesnt this cut both ways?. .

I listen to conservative talk and never hear any of those commercials. Are you sure you’re not talking about Liberal talk radio? Because nobody listens to that garbage so they dont get very good advertisers.

IT IS BAD FOR AMERICA BECAUSE IT INCREASES THE RIFT THAT DOESN’T NEED TO BE THERE.

The Republican Party is being destroyed from WITHIN.

    1. Karl Rove and his “turn political discourse into an open sewer” tactics have turned a lot of people OFF. [Although there still seems to be a fresh supply of it in HERE daily.]
    2. The religious fanatics still have too much power.
    3. The bigots still haven’t been encouraged strongly enough to HIT THE ROAD!
    4. The party STILL hasn’t acknowledged that the Bush administration
PROBABLY COMMITTED WAR CRIMES & DEFINITELY VIOLATED THE BILL OF RIGHTS.
If these problems are not fixed immediately,
    THE REPUBLICAN PARTY WILL DIE.
    WHY?
There will be a mass exodus of moderates to
    Become independents
    Become Libertarians
    Become Democrats [a few]
The process has already begun; only 20% identify themselves as Republicans in polls now.
What is left of the Republican Party at the end of this process will drown in its own bile.

I’m for all of our freedoms and personal responsibility, which are GOOD for Americans.

You would be amazed how easy it is to tune out advertisers. Plus, it’s kind of bizarre to complain about radio advertisers with all the tv advertisers.

  4. jaker says:

False premise: Those are not the primary advertisers.

More talk, exposing more viewpoints never hurts anyone

  6. rayb1214 says:

It’s good for all. Regardless of which side of the fence it is on, it is another forum for news and opinions and promotes that free speech thingy that liberals hate so much.

  7. jax says:

It’s good for cons to have a choice not to listen to lib big corporate media, and it’s also good for libs to have an enemy. Have you tried those products? Didn’t work for ya, huh?

They’re brainwashing the Republican birthers that are clinging to their every word. It depends on the radio, I listen to some but I don’t go there for information, I just like to hear the opinions of different people.

  9. eelfins says:

The advertizers don’t control the content of the shows or that’s all they would talk about. Without advertizers anyway, who’s going to pay the bills? The government? You already have NPR for that.

  10. Vegas Girl says:

Talk Radio is a crock. I wouldn’t trust these so called talking heads. They wouldn’t know how to find their behind with a map. They only care about their own agendas. Just my opinion.

  11. Libertine Saint says:

There is no “liberal talk radio” unless you count NPR which runs off of donations and sponsorship, and federal funding

That means the Right wing listeners are the ones who buy that crap.

  12. Juice says:

I agree wholeheartedly. People forget these guys are entertainers, they have no real power, they are not in office, they do not draft legislation, they’re not involved in foreign policy, THEY’RE NOT NEWS! They’re nobody outsiders looking in on Capitol hill. Just like us. If people understand that, and listen with that in mind, I think it’s all fine and dandy. Go free speech!!

The problem comes when people see their fav shock jock as the all-knowing great & powerful wizard of Oz of politics.

My own father (a Rush loyalist) would rather share a meal with a member of the taliban than he would a “commie liberal.”… and he’ll tell you as much in just those words. That kind of radical partisanship stands in the way of progress.

I can’t STAND to hear obnoxious tags like “commie liberal,” “worthless shred of human debris” or that slavery in the South was great because “For one thing, the streets were safer after dark” [all Rush-isms] It’s like fingernails down a chalk board.

You can be small-government without being a d*ck. That’s my point.

So two points (or however many they’ll give you for a thumbs up) for being the brave soul to post this Q.

    I’m with ya!

The issues are presented in an outlandish way.

They are simplified, dumbed down, turned into one-liners or bumper stickers.

That said, is it better for the proletariat underclass to have some exposer to the issues, or would it be better if they had no exposure?

    Tough question.

I would say no exposure if the only exposure they can get, or are willing to listen to, is highly manipulative Rush Limbaugh style or Sean Hannity style blather.

If the blue collar lumpen proletariat gets no exposure to political issues, maybe they won’t vote. The more sub-normal persons who take themselves out of the voting process, the richer the electorate is in normal or beyond normally intelligent voters. A better voting pool, on average, over time, will tend to produce better outcomes in terms of electing more capable people to office.

In my little town (Hagerstown Maryland) talk radio is the main source from which people get any exposure to the issues. This results in a highly polarized, highly braniwashed, highly manipulated group of people with strong opinions. Rep Bartlett is hugely popular here, and yet he’s one of the worst people ever sent to the Congress by any District anywhere. He does nothing, well worse than nothing really, but I don’t want to be more specific here. Let’s just say he’s a bad outcome and it’s because the elctorate is brainwashed, and polarized.

Huckerism we will always have with us. Elmer Gantry, Billy Sunday, the list goes on — all the way down to Bernie Madoff, and the shell game players who got the TARP money, from Paulson, and Geithner.

We live is a great country with a lot of disgraceful people in it.

Talk Radio doesn’t make them or it any better. It brings out the worst from both. Were it no for the First Amendment, it should be banned.

But that Amendment is GOOD, so talk radio must be tolerated, more’s the pity.

I’ve never heard those ads on talk radio (20 years). I see them on my E-mail, and I don’t know where they come from.

  15. INDEPENDENT says:

Seldon Surak II people said that about the democrats in 2004 and now they are the majority
